La misi\u00f3n CRISTAL asegurar\u00e1, con dos sat\u00e9lites, la continuaci\u00f3n a largo plazo de los registros de altimetr\u00eda radar de la elevaci\u00f3n y cambio del hielo. Es una de las seis misiones para ampliar las capacidades actuales del componente espacial de Copernicus en beneficio de todos los ciudadanos europeos. El contrato tiene un valor de 300 millones de euros.<\/p>\n<p>Con el lanzamiento previsto para 2027, CRISTAL llevar\u00e1 un alt\u00edmetro multifrecuencia avanzado que medir\u00e1 el grosor del hielo marino y las elevaciones de la capa de hielo. Estos datos apoyar\u00e1n las operaciones mar\u00edtimas en los oc\u00e9anos polares y contribuir\u00e1n a una mejor comprensi\u00f3n de los procesos clim\u00e1ticos. CRISTAL tambi\u00e9n apoyar\u00e1 las aplicaciones relacionadas con las aguas costeras e interiores y la observaci\u00f3n de la topograf\u00eda oce\u00e1nica.<\/p>\n<p>Seis paneles solares fijos y dos desplegables &#8211; 18,6 m\u00b2 en total &#8211; aseguran suficiente energ\u00eda en una \u00f3rbita polar a 760 km sobre la Tierra. Su memoria a bordo ser\u00e1 capaz de almacenar hasta 4 terabits de datos cient\u00edficos a la vez, proporcionando a los cient\u00edficos una gran cantidad de informaci\u00f3n durante sus 7,5 a\u00f1os de vida.
