Defence and Space se ha adjudicado la siguiente fase del contrato de estudio (Advanced B2) de la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) para el Sample Fetch Rover (SFR) avanzado que se utilizar\u00e1 para recoger muestras de la superficie de Marte.<\/p>\n<p>Mars Sample Return (MSR) es una campa\u00f1a conjunta de la NASA y la ESA para traer a la Tierra muestras del planeta rojo. El r\u00f3ver Perseverance de la misi\u00f3n Mars 2020 de la NASA recoger\u00e1 muestras del suelo y de rocas de Marte y las depositar\u00e1 en el interior de peque\u00f1os tubos met\u00e1licos sobre la superficie del planeta. En 2026, la NASA enviar\u00e1 a Marte un r\u00f3ver de la ESA para recoger estos tubos. El r\u00f3ver aterrizar\u00e1 en 2028 y durante seis meses viajar\u00e1 un promedio de 200 metros al d\u00eda con el objetivo de localizar y recuperar las muestras. Recoger\u00e1 hasta 36 tubos y los llevar\u00e1 de vuelta el m\u00f3dulo aterrizador donde los depositar\u00e1 en el veh\u00edculo de ascenso (Mars Ascent Vehicle) que los pondr\u00e1 en \u00f3rbita alrededor de Marte. El orbitador de regreso llamado ERO (Earth Return Orbiter), otra nave espacial desarrollada por la ESA (con una carga \u00fatil de la NASA), recuperar\u00e1 esas muestras de la \u00f3rbita marciana y las traer\u00e1 a la Tierra.<\/p>\n<p>Airbus en Stevenage se encarga ahora de dirigir el proyecto Sample Fetch Rover, una vez finalizado el r\u00f3ver ExoMars de la ESA que se lanzar\u00e1 en verano de 2022. Desde julio de 2018, Airbus en Stevenage ha trabajado en la fase inicial A del Sample Fetch Rover y en los estudios B1 posteriores.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo industrial liderado por Airbus ha desarrollado ya los sofisticados algoritmos necesarios para localizar los tubos de muestras en la superficie de Marte. Asimismo, un grupo de empresas Europeas est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ando un nuevo brazo rob\u00f3tico con una unidad de prensi\u00f3n que se encargar\u00e1 de recoger los tubos.<\/p>\n<p>El acomodamiento del perfil de la misi\u00f3n de superficie en el veh\u00edculo aterrizador de la NASA y el rover MSR impone nuevos requisitos al sistema de locomoci\u00f3n del r\u00f3ver SFR que recoger\u00e1 las muestras. Estar\u00e1 equipado con cuatro ruedas, m\u00e1s grandes que las del r\u00f3ver ExoMars. El tipo, tama\u00f1o y n\u00famero de ruedas han sido escogidos para acoplarse mejor al terreno del sitio de aterrizaje y con la velocidad y prestaciones requeridas para alcanzar la localizaci\u00f3n de las muestras y devolverlas a tiempo al veh\u00edculo aterrizador.<\/p>\n<p>A diferencia del r\u00f3ver ExoMars Rosalind Franklin, que cuenta con seis ruedas, el Sample Fetch Rover solo dispondr\u00e1 de cuatro a fin de reducir la masa y la complejidad, lo que puede acarrear tambi\u00e9n dificultades, dado que el r\u00f3ver debe desplazarse m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que ExoMars y, a\u00fan as\u00ed, no quedar atrapado en su recorrido por la superficie de Marte. El Sample Fetch Rover viajar\u00e1 m\u00e1s de 15 km a trav\u00e9s del planeta rojo para localizar y recoger hasta 36 de los 43 tubos de muestras que habr\u00e1 depositado con anterioridad el r\u00f3ver Perseverance. Se prev\u00e9 que las muestras lleguen a la Tierra en 2031.<\/p>\n<p>La ESA, en su reuni\u00f3n a nivel ministerial de noviembre de 2019, dio su aprobaci\u00f3n final a la campa\u00f1a Mars Sample
