Antes de la guerra, \u00fanicamente los stewards \u2014entonces denominados \u00abbarmans\u00bb\u2014 prestaban un servicio todav\u00eda limitado en vuelos generalmente cortos.<\/p>\n<h6>1946: responder a un nuevo mundo de la aviaci\u00f3n<\/h6>\n<p>Nacionalizada en 1945, Air France reanud\u00f3 sus actividades en 1946 en un contexto de fuerte expansi\u00f3n. La ruta Par\u00eds\u2013Nueva York, inaugurada ese mismo a\u00f1o y cuyo 80.\u00ba aniversario celebra Air France este a\u00f1o, pod\u00eda durar cerca de veinticuatro horas.<\/p>\n<p>Los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos permit\u00edan vuelos m\u00e1s largos y un aumento de la capacidad de las aeronaves; la competencia entre aerol\u00edneas se intensificaba y las expectativas de los pasajeros evolucionaban.<\/p>\n<p>La contrataci\u00f3n de las primeras azafatas respondi\u00f3 a esta nueva realidad. Su misi\u00f3n complementaba la de los stewards: recibir y tranquilizar a los pasajeros, atender a los ni\u00f1os y contribuir a la calidad del viaje. La profesi\u00f3n a\u00fan estaba por inventarse, pero r\u00e1pidamente se consolid\u00f3 como un componente esencial del servicio a bordo.<\/p>\n<h6>De un servicio a bordo a una profesi\u00f3n altamente cualificada<\/h6>\n<p>A lo largo de las d\u00e9cadas, la profesi\u00f3n evolucion\u00f3 profundamente. En 1955, azafatas y stewards fueron agrupados bajo una misma denominaci\u00f3n: personal de cabina comercial, o PNC (Personnel Navigant Commercial).<br \/>Con la llegada de los aviones a reacci\u00f3n y posteriormente de los aviones de fuselaje ancho, las tripulaciones crecieron en tama\u00f1o, las funciones se acercaron y se organizaron de manera m\u00e1s estructurada. Surgieron nuevas responsabilidades, como las de jefe de cabina y posteriormente jefe principal de cabina.<\/p>\n<p>Sobre todo, el papel del PNC dej\u00f3 de limitarse al servicio.
