El Detumbler incluye una rueda de rotor central e imanes que interact\u00faan con el campo magn\u00e9tico de la Tierra. Cuando el sat\u00e9lite vuela normalmente, el rotor act\u00faa como una br\u00fajula siguiendo el campo magn\u00e9tico, pero si la nave espacial comienza a girar, el movimiento del rotor induce corrientes par\u00e1sitas que act\u00faan como un par de fricci\u00f3n, amortiguando as\u00ed el movimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Los sat\u00e9lites muertos, especialmente en la \u00f3rbita terrestre baja (LEO), a menudo terminan cayendo, lo cual es un comportamiento natural debido a la din\u00e1mica del vuelo orbital. Las futuras misiones activas de eliminaci\u00f3n de escombros enfrentar\u00e1n un desaf\u00edo mayor si las naves espaciales caen. Por lo tanto, el Airbus Detumbler, que pesa alrededor de 100 g, podr\u00eda ser una herramienta \u00fatil para futuras misiones para evitar que los sat\u00e9lites caigan al final de su vida \u00fatil, haci\u00e9ndolos m\u00e1s f\u00e1ciles de capturar en misiones de limpieza de escombros.<\/p>\n<p>La demostraci\u00f3n en \u00f3rbita del Detumbler est\u00e1 prevista para principios de 2024 en una misi\u00f3n de Exotrail (SpaceVan) que incluir\u00e1 el nanosat\u00e9lite Exo-0 de EnduroSat.
