Se integrar\u00e1 en el sat\u00e9lite Meteosat Third Generation Sounder (MTG-S1) el a\u00f1o pr\u00f3ximo.<\/p>\n<p>El instrumento controlar\u00e1 continuamente los principales gases traza y aerosoles desde la \u00f3rbita geoestacionaria, con Europa y el norte de \u00c1frica en el campo de visi\u00f3n. Entre los gases traza que controlar\u00e1 figuran el di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno (NO2), el ozono (O3), el di\u00f3xido de azufre (SO2 ), el formaldeh\u00eddo, el glioxal y los aerosoles, vitales para evaluar la calidad del aire. El desarrollo y fabricaci\u00f3n del espectr\u00f3metro Sentinel-4 para el programa Copernicus corri\u00f3 a cargo de Airbus en Ottobrunn\/Munich. Comprender la composici\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica ayudar\u00e1 a reducir los riesgos de fen\u00f3menos como los penachos de polvo del desierto, el transporte a larga distancia de contaminantes atmosf\u00e9ricos, incluido el polen, as\u00ed como las columnas de cenizas procedentes de erupciones volc\u00e1nicas.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLa informaci\u00f3n recogida por el instrumento Sentinel-4 ayudar\u00e1 a los responsables de la toma de decisiones a dise\u00f1ar pol\u00edticas europeas sobre salud p\u00fablica y seguridad del tr\u00e1fico a\u00e9reo para proteger a los ciudadanos europeos\u201d<\/em>, declar\u00f3 Philippe Pham, Responsable de Observaci\u00f3n de la Tierra y Ciencia en Airbus. <em>\u201cLa combinaci\u00f3n de un sat\u00e9lite geoestacionario y un instrumento como Sentinel-4 permite realizar mediciones de gases traza en la atm\u00f3sfera terrestre sobre Europa en un tiempo r\u00e9cord de aproximadamente 1 hora\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>El instrumento Sentinel-4 es un espectr\u00f3metro de alta resoluci\u00f3n con un tiempo de revisita r\u00e1pido que opera en tres bandas que cubren los rangos de longitud de onda ultravioleta (305-400 nm), visible (400-500 nm) e infrarrojo cercano (750-775 nm).<\/p>\n<p>El primer modelo del instrumento se embarcar\u00e1 en el sat\u00e9lite MTG-S1, cuyo lanzamiento est\u00e1 previsto para 2024, y el segundo, a\u00fan por construir, volar\u00e1 a bordo de la MTG-S2, que se lanzar\u00e1 en 2034. El objetivo es garantizar la disponibilidad de datos para la comunidad cient\u00edfica durante un periodo de dos d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p>Tanto la nave como el instrumento ser\u00e1n operados por EUMETSAT, la Organizaci\u00f3n Europea para la Explotaci\u00f3n de Sat\u00e9lites Meteorol\u00f3gicos. El instrumento Sentinel-4 se basa en la experiencia de instrumentos anteriores de la ESA de eficacia probada, como Sciamachy y Tropomi (a bordo de Sentinel-5P), tambi\u00e9n construidos por Airbus.<\/p>\n<p>La misi\u00f3n Sentinel-4 es una iniciativa de la Uni\u00f3n Europea y la Agencia Espacial Europea que proporciona una vigilancia continua de la atm\u00f3sfera sobre Europa.
