Este anuncio lo har\u00e1 de manera colaborativa y en asociaci\u00f3n con otros actores de la industria luego de firmar una carta de intenci\u00f3n con Airbus, documento que tambi\u00e9n firmaron Air Canada, easyJet, International Airlines Group, Lufthansa Group and Virgin Atlantic para evaluar este tipo de tecnolog\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>De esta forma, LATAM se transforma en el primer grupo de aerol\u00edneas de Latinoam\u00e9rica en explorar esta tecnolog\u00eda que permite filtrar y capturar CO2 de la atm\u00f3sfera para posteriormente almacenarlo de forma segura y permanente a grandes profundidades<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDACCS representa una forma innovadora no solo de eliminar el di\u00f3xido de carbono de la atm\u00f3sfera, sino que tambi\u00e9n tiene el potencial de desempe\u00f1ar un papel en el desarrollo de combustibles de aviaci\u00f3n sint\u00e9ticos sostenibles\u201d<\/em>, dijo Juan Jos\u00e9 Toh\u00e1, Director de Asuntos Corporativos y Sostenibilidad de LATAM Airlines Group.<\/p>\n<p>El ejecutivo agreg\u00f3 que <em>\u201cen el camino a la carbono neutralidad es clave el trabajo colaborativo y que no existe una \u00fanica soluci\u00f3n. Es por ello que estamos implementando diferentes medidas para ser cero emisiones netas, incluidas mayores eficiencias, combustibles de aviaci\u00f3n sostenibles y nuevas tecnolog\u00edas, respaldadas por la conservaci\u00f3n de ecosistemas estrat\u00e9gicos y compensaciones de calidad\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Este anuncio se enmarca dentro de la estrategia de sostenibilidad del grupo que busca alcanzar la carbono neutralidad al 2050. Para ello, LATAM trabaja en su pilar de Cambio Clim\u00e1tico que incluye la implementaci\u00f3n de medidas y mejores pr\u00e1cticas para el uso eficiente de combustible para la reducci\u00f3n de emisiones, el desarrollo de SAF (combustible sostenible de aviaci\u00f3n) y el apoyo a la conservaci\u00f3n de ecosistemas estrat\u00e9gicos. Cabe recordar que el grupo recientemente asumi\u00f3 el compromiso de llegar a un 5% de SAF en sus operaciones al 2030, privilegiando la producci\u00f3n en Sudam\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Tecnolog\u00eda DACCS<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>El DACCS es una tecnolog\u00eda de alto potencial que permite filtrar y eliminar hasta el 90 % de las emisiones de CO2 del aire utilizando ventiladores y absorbedores en una instalaci\u00f3n neutra en carbono alimentada por fuentes de energ\u00eda de cero emisiones. Luego de filtrar o eliminar las emisiones de CO2, los almacena de forma segura y permanente en campos subterr\u00e1neos de petr\u00f3leo y gas agotados o en formaciones salinas profundas.<\/p>\n<p>Dado que la industria de la aviaci\u00f3n no puede capturar las emisiones de CO2 liberadas a la atm\u00f3sfera, una soluci\u00f3n directa de captura y almacenamiento de carbono en el aire permitir\u00eda al sector extraer las emisiones de sus operaciones directamente del aire atmosf\u00e9rico.<\/p>\n<p>La extracci\u00f3n de carbono directamente del aire y su posterior almacenamiento permanente constituye una gran innovaci\u00f3n que es complementaria al uso de nuevas tecnolog\u00edas, uso de combustibles sostenibles y la protecci\u00f3n de ecosistemas estrat\u00e9gicos, pero que resulta clave, como lo ha concluido el Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Clim\u00e1tico de la ONU, estableciendo que la captura de carbono es una de las
