incorporar combustible sostenible de aviaci\u00f3n (SAF, en su sigla en ingl\u00e9s) en su operaci\u00f3n, privilegiando producci\u00f3n generada en Sudam\u00e9rica. Esto forma parte de la estrategia de sostenibilidad del grupo, que busca el crecimiento carbono neutro, neutralizar el 50% de las emisiones dom\u00e9sticas al a\u00f1o 2030 y alcanzar la carbono neutralidad a 2050.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSudam\u00e9rica tiene el potencial de ser un l\u00edder mundial en la producci\u00f3n de combustibles sostenibles y con ello hacer una contribuci\u00f3n muy significativa a la acci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica. Para que esto suceda, se requiere que actores p\u00fablicos y privados, como LATAM, colaboren y jueguen su rol y se atrevan a liderar la transici\u00f3n energ\u00e9tica que el mundo requiere.\u00a0 Con este anuncio, el grupo est\u00e1 dando una se\u00f1al clara al mercado del inter\u00e9s real en comprar combustibles SAF en la regi\u00f3n<\/em>\u201d, dijo Roberto Alvo, CEO de LATAM Airlines Group en el marco del evento \u201cWings of Change\u201d, organizado por la Asociaci\u00f3n de Transporte A\u00e9reo Internacional (IATA) los d\u00edas 6 y 7 de abril en Santiago de Chile.<\/p>\n<p>El ejecutivo resalt\u00f3 el potencial que tiene el desarrollo de SAF en la regi\u00f3n por los recursos naturales disponibles y su riqueza en energ\u00edas renovables. Sin embargo, actualmente es un mercado inmaduro con poca oferta, que a\u00fan no cuenta con las condiciones habilitantes para desarrollar su potencial en la regi\u00f3n, que incluyen esquemas normativos espec\u00edficos, promoci\u00f3n de tecnolog\u00eda e innovaci\u00f3n, apoyo a la producci\u00f3n y cadena log\u00edstica, mecanismos para bajar los costos, entre otros factores.<\/p>\n<p>Actualmente, los elevados costos de producci\u00f3n y la inmadurez del mercado plantean grandes desaf\u00edos pensando en una masificaci\u00f3n del uso de este tipo de combustibles. En este sentido, el CEO de LATAM hizo un llamado a las autoridades gubernamentales, a las empresas privadas, academia y al resto de compa\u00f1\u00edas a\u00e9reas a colaborar en esta materia, para generar incentivos que permitan expandir la producci\u00f3n, el uso y masificaci\u00f3n de SAF en Sudam\u00e9rica como una manera de buscar soluciones a la emergencia clim\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el SAF?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Es un tipo de combustible no convencional, producido a partir de materias primas renovables o derivadas de residuos que cumplen con criterios de sostenibilidad. La variedad de materias primas es amplia pudiendo ser aceites de cocina, grasas, desechos municipales y residuos agr\u00edcolas, entre otros. Adem\u00e1s, existen otras alternativas como el hidr\u00f3geno verde que tambi\u00e9n puede ser usado para producir SAF, aunque -de momento- no es comercialmente viable para este fin dado su alto costo y bajo volumen de producci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan datos de la IATA, el SAF brinda una reducci\u00f3n en las emisiones de hasta un 80% en comparaci\u00f3n con los combustibles tradicionales, y se plantea como la herramienta m\u00e1s inmediata para contribuir a un transporte masivo sostenible.<\/p>\n<p>Sudam\u00e9rica re\u00fane condiciones insuperables en materia de disponibilidad de recursos y materias primas sostenibles para desarrollar este tipo de combustible sostenible. Por ejemplo, seg\u00fan datos de WWF, Brasil cuenta con un potencial para producir hasta 9 mil millones de litros de SAF, provenientes de diferentes fuentes como residuos de la agricultura y de la industria maderera y a 2030 la oferta mundial ser\u00e1n 6.500 MM Gal, de los cuales 2.300 MM Gal (un 35%) saldr\u00e1n de ese mercado.<\/p>\n<p>A largo plazo, tambi\u00e9n se espera poder propulsar aviones mediante el hidr\u00f3geno verde como fuente de energ\u00eda directa; sin embargo, esta tecnolog\u00eda a\u00fan est\u00e1 en desarrollo y requerir\u00e1 modificaciones en los aviones actuales.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>LATAM y su estrategia de sostenibilidad<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>En mayo de 2021, el grupo LATAM present\u00f3 su estrategia de sostenibilidad basada en tres frentes: <em>Cambio Clim\u00e1tico<\/em>, <em>Econom\u00eda Circular<\/em> y <em>Valor Compartido<\/em>, donde destaca su compromiso con la protecci\u00f3n de los ecosistemas estrat\u00e9gicos de Am\u00e9rica del Sur de
