El modelo permiti\u00f3 a Italia convertirse en una de las pocas naciones del mundo con un OEM capaz del dise\u00f1o, desarrollo y fabricaci\u00f3n aut\u00f3noma de helic\u00f3pteros, que se volvi\u00f3 altamente exitoso tanto en el mercado nacional como en el de exportaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El mejor en desempe\u00f1o y velocidad de su clase, un dise\u00f1o elegante para una aerodin\u00e1mica superior, moderna caja de cambios principal y dise\u00f1o y desarrollo de transmisiones internos, versatilidad de misi\u00f3n y un alto nivel de personalizaci\u00f3n. Todas estas caracter\u00edsticas permitieron distinguidas herramientas y capacidades esenciales en Leonardo, como as\u00ed tambi\u00e9n jugaron un importante papel en su creciente variedad de helic\u00f3pteros multirol y de doble uso para las pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas, que comenz\u00f3 con el vuelo inaugural del A109 Agusta el 4 de agosto de 1971.<\/p>\n<p>El dise\u00f1ador Bruno Lovera solicit\u00f3 el proyecto al top management de entonces y el primer prototipo del A109 fue llevado a los cielos por el piloto Ottorino Lancia por primera vez en el verano del 1971. El nuevo modelo contaba con un rotor principal articulado de cuatro palas, un rotor de cola semirr\u00edgido de dos palas y un equipo de aterrizaje plegable, proporcionando cualidades de manejo y de vuelo en general \u00fanicas. El helic\u00f3ptero de 2.4 toneladas y 8 asientos, fue certificado en Italia y Estados Unidos cuatro a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde y entr\u00f3 al mercado en 1976. El nuevo modelo tambi\u00e9n permiti\u00f3 a la compa\u00f1\u00eda entrar al altamente competitivo mercado estadounidense, donde utiliz\u00f3 el establecimiento de un centro de log\u00edstica en Filadelfia que se convertir\u00eda, a lo largo de las pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas, en la sede de helic\u00f3pteros de Leonardo en Estados Unidos, para la fabricaci\u00f3n integral de helic\u00f3pteros, servicios de entrenamiento y apoyo.<\/p>\n<p>Comenzando a mitad de la d\u00e9cada del 70, el \u00e9xito temprano condujo a una presencia continua y creciente de la compa\u00f1\u00eda en el desafiante segmento ligero del mercado global con un n\u00famero de versiones y modelos recientemente certificados para el m\u00e1s amplio despliegue de aplicaciones civiles, de servicios p\u00fablicos y militares.
