Ziegler fue uno de los ingenieros pioneros de Airbus, y desempe\u00f1\u00f3 un papel decisivo en la introducci\u00f3n de los primeros controles digitales Fly-By-Wire (FBW) y de la palanca de control lateral en un avi\u00f3n comercial de pasajeros, el A320, en 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Ziegler, cuya carrera se prolong\u00f3 durante casi cuatro d\u00e9cadas, fue capaz de ver todo el potencial que pod\u00eda entra\u00f1ar el FBW digital, como la protecci\u00f3n de la envolvente de vuelo incorporada en el software de control. Su legado permanecer\u00e1 en todos los aviones Airbus de la generaci\u00f3n actual gracias al FBW digital y a su inclusi\u00f3n como est\u00e1ndar en todos los aviones de pasajeros modernos del mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Ziegler, nacido en 1933 en Boulogne-sur-Seine, se gradu\u00f3 en la \u00c9cole Polytechnique francesa en 1954 y, posteriormente, estudi\u00f3 en varias escuelas de ingenier\u00eda y de formaci\u00f3n de vuelo (\u00c9cole Nationale de l\u2019Air, \u00c9cole de Chasse, \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de l\u2019A\u00e9ronautique, \u00c9cole du Personnel Navigant d\u2019Essais et de R\u00e9ception). Durante diez a\u00f1os, fue, adem\u00e1s, piloto de aviones de combate en la Fuerza A\u00e9rea francesa.<\/p>\n<p>A principios de los a\u00f1os sesenta estudi\u00f3 Ingenier\u00eda Aeron\u00e1utica en la ENSA (l\u2019\u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de l&#8217;A\u00e9ronautique) de Toulouse, actualmente ISAE-SUPAERO, para, despu\u00e9s, ingresar en la prestigiosa escuela de pilotos de pruebas EPNER, antes de emprender la carrera de piloto de pruebas militar.<\/p>\n<p>En 1972, Ziegler se incorpor\u00f3 a Airbus como jefe piloto de pruebas y se le encomend\u00f3 liderar la creaci\u00f3n de una nueva divisi\u00f3n de ensayos en vuelo. Para ello, Ziegler cre\u00f3 un equipo que compart\u00eda los objetivos de la oficina de dise\u00f1o y de los pa\u00edses socios, fomentando la colaboraci\u00f3n entre los equipos de ensayos en vuelo y los ingenieros de dise\u00f1o. 0<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, particip\u00f3 como piloto de pruebas en el vuelo inaugural del primer A300 en 1972. El programa constituy\u00f3, m\u00e1s adelante, uno de los primeros bancos de pruebas del FBW, que transfiere los comandos del piloto a la aeronave mediante se\u00f1ales digitales, y presenta importantes ventajas gracias a la comunalidad, la mejora de la seguridad del vuelo, la reducci\u00f3n de la carga de trabajo del piloto, un menor n\u00famero de piezas mec\u00e1nicas y la monitorizaci\u00f3n en tiempo real de todos los sistemas del avi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>0Tambi\u00e9n pilot\u00f3 el A310, el A320 y el A340-200. En junio de 1993, Ziegler form\u00f3 parte del vuelo m\u00e1s largo realizado por un avi\u00f3n civil, cuando un A340-200, al que se bautiz\u00f3 como World Ranger, dio la vuelta al mundo en poco m\u00e1s de 48 horas con una sola escala en Auckland, partiendo de Par\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta su jubilaci\u00f3n en diciembre de 1997, Ziegler desempe\u00f1\u00f3 el cargo de vicepresidente de
